Trail一詞有“追蹤”、“拖在后面”的意思，如：trail a fugitive（追蹤一個在逃犯）。
在體育比賽中，trail可用來指比分落后于對方，而“落后（…分）”則常用trail by…來表達。
例如：Manchester United trailed by two goals in the second half.
（曼聯(lián)隊下半場落后兩球。）；The team trailed the league leader by four
games.（這支隊落后于榜首的隊四場。）
