Language Snacks-grab a quick bite to eat
[ 2008-09-18 15:37 ]

You’re listening to British Council’s English Online and I’m Sabrina.

Today on Language Snacks we take a look at the expression ‘grab a quick bite to eat.’

Let’s listen to the dialogue.

A: Robin, have you had lunch yet?

B: No, not yet.

A: You should grab a quick bite to eat.

B: Sure, just let me finish these things then.

Let’s look a bit closer at the dialogue and our expression ‘grab a quick bite to eat’.

Grab as a verb means to take or get hold of something suddenly. For example “grab the elevator door” (Chinese translation).

So ‘grab a quick bite to eat’ simply means to go and get something to eat, probably a snack or something that can be eaten quickly (Chinese translation).

Actually, I’m quite hungry now so after this show I think I’ll grab a quick bite to eat with my colleagues before I go back to the office.

And that’s it for now – join us again for some more Language Snacks.

You’ve been listening to English Online – the podcast for English learners in China.
