1. To cook the books – to record false information in the accounts of an organisation.(在一個組織的賬戶上面記錄錯誤或者假的信息。)
例句:
When the company went bankrupt, it was discovered that one of the directors had been cooking the books for years.
公司破產的時候才發現一個董事會成員一直做假賬做了好多年。

2. To go from/get/jump out of the frying pan into the fire – to go from a bad situation to a worse one.(逃脫小難又遭大難。)
例句:
She had always had problems with her sales manager, so was relieved when he was sacked. However, she went from the frying pan nto the fire with the new sales manager!
她跟銷售經理之間一直矛盾重重,所以當他被解雇后她覺得如釋重負。然而,當她遇到新的銷售經理時她覺得自己才脫龍潭又入虎穴。

3. Too many cooks spoil the broth – too many people managing a job can actually create more problems.(—多反誤事。)
例句:
Look, we need to decide once and for all who is managing this project because we have a situation of too many cooks spoiling the broth at the moment.
喂,我們需要徹底地決定誰管理這個項目,因為我們現在處于一種人多反誤事的境況。

4.To Cook Something Up – to organise something(組織事情)
例句:
Leave the organisational details of the party to me. I will cook something up and it will be fantastic. You’ll see.
把聚會的組織細節留給我吧。我會組織一切,絕對做到最好,你等著看吧。

5. To grill someone -to question someone without stopping(不停地質問某人)
例句:
The police grilled the suspect for seven hours and still couldn’t get a confession out of him.
這個警察拷問了嫌疑人七個小時,但是仍然不能讓他認罪。

6. To boil over – when someone cannot control their anger and start to argue or fight(當一些人不能控制他們的憤怒從而開始爭吵或是打架)
例句:
The situation was so tense in the boardroom that people’s tempers were boiling over by the end of the meeting.
會議室的氣氛如此緊張,在會議結束時大家都快要吵起來了。

7. To simmer down – to become calm(冷靜下來)
例句:
Hey, simmer down and relax. Getting angry won’t change things.
嘿.冷靜下來放松一下。生氣改變不了任何事情。

8. To Simmer with rage/anger – to be filled with negative emotions like rage and anger(充滿憤怒和生氣等負面情緒)
例句:
Susan simmered with rage when she saw the mess her son made in the kitchen.
當蘇珊看到兒子把廚房弄得一團糟時,氣不打一處來。

9. Half-baked ideas (informal) – ideas that have not been thought out enough(未經過深思熟慮想出來的想法)
例句:
James is always coming to me with his half-baked ideas on how we can increase sales. He is so annoying.
詹姆斯總是帶著很不成熟的想法來找我說如何增加銷售額,他真是煩人。
