The French production company that helped bring The Queen to the big screen is turning its attention to another female icon: Margaret Thatcher.
The film will focus on one of the former prime minister's crowning glories, the 1982 Falklands War against Argentina.
French-owned UK-based production and distribution banner Pathe has joined forces with the BBC and independent producer Damian Jones to develop the project, which they said will offer "a revealing and intimate portrait" of the woman dubbed "the iron lady".
They have commissioned Brian Fillis to develop a screenplay. No director has yet been attached and a Pathe spokesperson stressed that the project was in the very early stages of research and development.
No budget was announced but it will be subject to cast.
The film will centre on Thatcher's battle to save her career in the 17 days immediately before the Falklands War, which was triggered when Argentina invaded the remote archipelago in the southern Atlantic.

曾將《女王》搬上熒幕的法國電影制片公司日前又將目光投向另一位“女中豪杰”：瑪格麗特·撒切爾。
這部新片將重點講述這位英國前首相光輝政治生涯中的一個重要事件，即1982年與阿根廷的馬島戰(zhàn)爭（又稱“福克蘭群島戰(zhàn)爭”）。
這家總部位于英國的法國Pathe制片及發(fā)行公司計劃與英國廣播公司和獨立制片人達米安·瓊斯聯(lián)手，將撒切爾夫人搬上熒幕。據(jù)制片方稱，這部新片將是這個被稱為“鐵娘子”的女人的“真實寫照”。
目前，制片方已委托布萊恩·菲利斯開始劇本的創(chuàng)作，但導(dǎo)演的人選還沒有確定，Pathe制片公司的一位發(fā)言人表示，這部影片目前尚處于“研發(fā)”的前期準備階段。
影片預(yù)算還未公布，但這將主要取決于演員陣容。
這部影片將圍繞撒切爾夫人在馬島戰(zhàn)爭爆發(fā)前17天為拯救其政治生涯所做的種種努力而展開。馬島戰(zhàn)爭起因于阿根廷侵占英國位于南大西洋上的一個偏遠群島。
