A cultural hot spot!
-----------------------------------
F: It sounds like there is a lot of Muslim culture there.
M: That's true, but much more. Xi'an is considered the start of the old Silk Road.
F: Wasn't Xi'an the capital of China during the Tang Dynasty?
M: Yes, and that was a period when Chinese culture was at one of its peaks.
F: So how do you experience the Tang Dynasty?
M: There are some dinner-theater style shows that some of my Chinese friends think are a bit cheesy. But I thought they were very interesting performances and I learned a lot.
It's a cheesy soap opera. You look cheesy with that hat on.
1. The Silk Road, or Silk Route, is a series of trade and cultural transmission routes that were central to cultural interaction through regions of the Asian continent connecting the West and East by linking traders, merchants, pilgrims, monks, soldiers, nomads, and urban dwellers from China and India to the Mediterranean Sea during various periods of time.
2. Xi'an is the eastern starting point of the ancient Silk Road.
3. The Silk Road started in the Han dynasty, but saw its peak years during the Tang dynasty, around the 7th century AD when Xi'an was also the country's capital.
4. An active trade route from 200 BC, the Silk Road thrived until the 16th century when it was overtaken by the advent of a sea route between China and Europe.
