WAGs (or Wags) is an acronym, used particularly by the British tabloid press, to describe the wives and girlfriends of high-profile football players, originally the England national football team. The term came into common use during the 2006 FIFA World Cup. The acronym has since been used by the media in other countries to describe the wives and girlfriends of sportsmen in general.
WAGs（有時(shí)也寫(xiě)作Wags）是一個(gè)縮略語(yǔ)，英國(guó)八卦報(bào)紙多用來(lái)指代明星足球球員的妻子和女朋友（wives and girlfriends），亦稱(chēng)“太太團(tuán)”，最初特指英國(guó)國(guó)家足球隊(duì)隊(duì)員的妻子和女朋友。這個(gè)稱(chēng)呼在2006年世界杯期間開(kāi)始廣泛使用，之后其他國(guó)家的媒體多用WAGs來(lái)統(tǒng)稱(chēng)體育明星的“太太團(tuán)”。
During the 2006 World Cup the press gave increasing coverage to the socialising and shopping activities of the English WAGs, who were based in the German town of Baden Baden. It was frequently suggested that England's exit from the tournament in the quarterfinals was a result of such distractions.
2006年世界杯期間，英國(guó)球員“太太團(tuán)”駐扎在德國(guó)小鎮(zhèn)巴登-巴登，媒體對(duì)她們的社交和購(gòu)物活動(dòng)做了大量的報(bào)道。后來(lái)屢有傳言說(shuō)英格蘭隊(duì)在四分之一決賽中出局就是因?yàn)楸弧疤珗F(tuán)”分了心。
